About me
Sarah Shaw, Consultant Vocational / Complex Regional Pain Syndrome / Mental Health Occupational Therapist.

Based in North Staffordshire. Registered with RCOT and HPC OT 23844

My wide range of experiences puts me the the best place to be able to treat clients holistically encompassing physical and mental health.

I have 30 years experience as an Occupational Therapist and am a member of the Royal College of OT's. I have had a varied career including case manager responsibilities, medico legal and expert witness roles progressing to Head Occupational Therapist in the NHS managing two community mental health teams. I started working privately over 20 years ago having been head hunted by a specialist prosthetics company (for amputees). I have worked with private companies, forces based charities as well as private individuals.

I particularly enjoy being able to make a difference to individual peoples lives whether that be supporting them to return to work or advising companies on reasonable adjustments for their employees, and seeing the positive impact my work can have helping people transform their lives.

My own experience of living with an acquired disability means that I have had many OT's involved in my care and this has given me insight into the world of being a patient which fully informs my practice.

I can support you to broach your needs with your employer. I can help you find a successful way for you to continue working through adaptation of task, working hours, use of specialist knowledge and equipment or technology.
Occupational Health is a cost effective service which meets the needs of both employer and employee to limit sickness absence and a timely return to work.
I can support companies by assessing the occupational health needs of their employees. This enables safe and appropriate working conditions to help them rehabilitate to work. This can be the adaption of their tasks to promote the recovery of the employee to return to work more quickly and rehabilitate them to full hours quickly and safely.
I advise on reasonable adjustments required by the employer to empower the employee safely back to work.

Approachable and pragmatic, Sarah was a stable source of support for me in my OT role, and encouraged me into developing my career. R. Hughes Parent of child with CRPS
Sarah has helped us both greatly.
With lived experience of the condition herself my daughter has for the first time been able to access advice from someone who truly understands what she is going through. Sarah has provided us with great advice regarding mobility, treatment options, available benefits and also living with the condition.
More recently we have accessed treatment overseas and Sarah has supported us through this whole process too. In fact Sarah’s own experience of this gave us the confidence to try this, with excellent results.
