Starting with the right advice can make your future brighter
Where I work
It is preferable to meet with clients on a face to face basis usually in their own environment. This may be home or work place. This may not always be possible and so online consultation can provide a less disruptive and cost effective way of meeting.
The skill of an Occupational Therapist is understanding medical conditions and disabilities that affect an individual’s life and ability to complete daily activities. As an O.T I analyse the tasks you want to be able to do in your life whether that be washing, dressing, walking, using disability equipment such as a mobility scooters or wheelchair. You may need advice to increase safety in your home when moving around or struggle getting in or out of bed or a chair? Are toilet transfers or getting in or out of a bath or shower difficult? Do you struggle to shop, budget or manage pain, mood or energy levels? Do you struggle with motivating yourself to look after you? Occupational Therapists are trained in both mental and physical health, we treat the person holistically. With the correct advice and equipment, I can help with all these areas. O.T’s also advise on work and leisure activities and making adaptations so you can do the things you really value. Every individual is totally unique so every intervention is based on your exact needs.

Are you having difficulties with your employer due to your health/ attendance? Let me help you as an independent Occupational Therapist expert with over fifteen years experience in this field.
As an OT I understand health conditions and how these can impact on every area of your life, including work. Indeed my own career was affected for years by my own health situation. I left my Head OT in Mental Health career in the NHS in 2014 as I struggled following a simple knee surgery. My role was also to be a Lead in Vocational Rehabilitation for those with complex mental health needs and I enjoyed supporting people back into paid or voluntary work. I then worked as an Expert Witness and for other private companies until my mobility seriously deteriorated and I became reliant on an electric wheelchair at that time. I have been walking much better since 2022 due to treatment abroad. I have always worked for myself however as a Consultant OT and have maintained this throughout my recovery.
I have personally learnt the importance of choosing the right work tasks to meet my current abilities, pacing, energy conservation, positioning and the use of adaptive equipment. I have worked with many individuals all with different jobs and needs from admin, gardeners, catering staff, porters, farming staff, tourism staff, senior managers in many fields. I have also worked with a wide range of staff at a leading prosthetics company in the UK.
I have supported individual staff with their employers if they are struggling due to caring responsibilities which are impacting on their work and employer this has led to an improvement in understanding of each others needs. Education about the health condition and needs of the employee by a neutral party can be effective in resolving issues at work. Reasonable adjustments due to a health condition are a legal requirement for employers to consider. Let me help you improve your work situation and relationship with your employer. I can also consider your disability and suggest areas of work that would suit your individual health needs if you are looking for work.
I have over fifteen years experience working as an OT in this field and I network with other OT’s in this field all over the UK to keep up to date on best practice. I work for a large company in the South advising on return to work and reasonable adjustments on an employee’s individual health needs. I have also done this kind of work at a large prosthetics company. The advice ensures a safe and timely return to work which benefits the employee and the employer. Advice sometimes leads to a change of hours, tasks, role or the use of appropriate adaptive equipment.
Some of my advice has prevented certain movements to prevent further injury after spinal surgery or when repetitive strain injury has been evident. Other work has involved careful grading when someone is undergoing lengthy cancer treatment and adjustment of roles due to very severe stress reactions and complex autism diagnoses. I very much enjoy this area of work and employees and employers have been grateful for my input. I can provide an excellent reference from my current employer.
